This practice provides professional supportive counselling services within an ethical framework aligned with the Association for Supportive Counsellors and Holistic Practitioners (ASCHP). The approach is client-centred, grounded in respect, empathy, and the promotion of psychological wellbeing.

Professional Scope and Ethical Framework

Services are delivered within the scope of supportive (non-clinical) counselling and are not intended to diagnose or treat mental disorders. This practice does not replace psychiatric, psychological, or medical care.

In accordance with ASCHP guidelines:

The focus is on wellness, personal development, and coping support

  • A non-pathologising, strengths-based approach is applied
  • Appropriate referrals are made where clinical or specialised intervention is required

Confidentiality and Ethical Responsibility

Confidentiality forms the foundation of the counselling relationship and is upheld in accordance with ASCHP ethical standards. All information shared during sessions is treated as private and confidential, except where disclosure is required by law or ethical duty, including:

  • Risk of harm to self or others
  • Abuse or neglect of a minor or vulnerable individual
  • Legal obligations such as court orders

Protection of Personal Information (POPIA)

This practice complies with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA). Personal information is collected, processed, and stored responsibly and only for purposes relevant to counselling and practice administration.

By engaging with this practice, you consent to the following:

  • The collection of personal information necessary to support the counselling process (e.g., contact details, relevant personal history, and session notes)
  • The secure storage and lawful processing of such information
  • Non-disclosure to third parties without your explicit consent, unless legally required

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal information
  • Request correction or deletion of inaccurate data
  • Withdraw consent, subject to legal and ethical limitations

Informed Consent and Client Autonomy

Participation in counselling is voluntary. Clients are informed of the nature, purpose, and limitations of supportive counselling to enable informed decision-making. You retain the right to withdraw from the counselling process at any time.

Record Keeping

Records are maintained in a secure and confidential manner, consistent with ASCHP guidelines and applicable legal requirements. Records are retained only for as long as necessary for professional and administrative purposes.

Professional Boundaries and Limitation of Liability

This practice maintains clear professional boundaries in accordance with ASCHP ethical standards. While every effort is made to provide a supportive and effective service, outcomes cannot be guaranteed. Clients remain responsible for their own decisions and actions outside the counselling context.
